The amount of misinformation which is being circulated on both campaign sides is just appalling. I don't think the press will be doing themselves any long term favours if they just report this. I would urge them to take a stand, tell people what is true or false and who is making it up and then let people decide which way they want to vote. It might just help encourage back some daily readers if they think they can believe what they read in their newspapers.
